Re: Connecting
@maryam I couldn't imagine going through phone transition and having to reconnect smart devices too. I imagine most use a mobile app these days. Re-authorizing a mobile user might cause issues with connected home gadgets...

Re: Connecting

@Michelle I thought that too! My photo transfer took some time then they transferred contacts. When I got home I needed to setup all my apps, security, remember all the passwords, etc. Then, of course, all the data in texts is gone, so if you had a text with a photo, phone number, etc. you need to go to your old phone and manually implement it. It was a chore I did a few apps every night and other updates depending on my most urgent needs. Be prepared the transition is not that smooth unless you go from one brand phone to the identical brand, then you gain some efficiency.

Re: Connecting
I would expect that too -- I suppose I'll get to see when I get a new phone. I keep most data in a cloud (somewhere out there) anyway so I would really just be adding apps.

Re: Connecting
@maryam @michelle I should have thought the carriers would have a solution available to expedite these things. It can be something like a transfer to a cloud -- even if only temporarily -- to then redowload to your new phone.

Re: Connecting
@maryam Hours?? I'm pretty sure I'll need a new phone soon. I assumed my carrier's backup utility took care of apps too, but it may not. I don't look forward to downloading and installing apps again on a new phone.

Re: Connecting
Setting up a new device is always a pain, Kelsey's example does seem like it could have been a nightmare though.

Re: Connecting
Even without a smart home getting all the apps transferred and setup is very time consuming. I learned the carriers only transfer contacts and pictures everything else is your repsonsibility. I just got a new phone the process took hours.

Re: Connecting
@Kelsey Wow, I hadn't thought of the set up process with a new phone. It's really good that you saved all the info. Could you imagine reconnecting multiple smart devices to a new phone?

Re: Connecting
@freehe at least my new phone recommends apps that I should delete that are not used frequently. The issue is a constant process, and the apps can't go to the SD card and be used like on my Kindle. Phone manufacturers need to address this in their future versions, but they probably just want to encourage us all to buy new phones!

Re: Connecting
Kelsey, I just went through the same process when I upgraded my phone now I am facing it with my laptop. Getting all the apps installed updated and remembering all the disparate passwords was the biggest project.
